Burn & Bury operates burnandbury.org. This notice describes how the current static website handles information. It does not claim that the site collects information through services that are not enabled.
Information the site handles
- Technical logs. The hosting provider may record an IP address, requested page, date and time, browser details, referring page, and error information to deliver and protect the site. The provider controls some log settings and retention periods.
- Messages you send. The contact form opens your email application and prepares a draft addressed to letters@burnandbury.org . The form does not send data to a website server. If you choose to send the email, we receive the sender and recipient details, message, attachments, and ordinary email headers.
- No account or tracking profile. The current site has no user accounts, newsletter signup, payment form, advertising tracker, or analytics service.
How information is used
We use messages to respond to the request, consider corrections or story tips, and maintain ordinary editorial correspondence. Technical logs may be used to keep the site available, diagnose faults, and investigate abuse or security incidents. We do not sell personal information.
Service providers and disclosure
The hosting provider processes technical requests on our behalf. Your email provider and ours may process a message when you send it. These providers may operate in different countries and apply their own terms and privacy practices. We may disclose information where required by law, to protect the site or people, or as part of a lawful transfer of the publication. External links lead to services with their own privacy notices.
Cookies and similar technology
The current site does not set advertising or analytics cookies. Your browser or hosting and security services may use essential technical mechanisms to deliver or protect a request. You can block cookies in your browser, though a security feature provided by the host may then work differently.
Retention and security
We keep correspondence only as long as it is reasonably needed to answer it, maintain an editorial record, resolve a dispute, or meet a legal obligation. Hosting logs are retained according to the provider-s available settings and applicable requirements. We use reasonable safeguards for information under our control, but no internet transmission or storage method can be guaranteed completely secure. If a privacy incident is legally notifiable, we will follow the applicable notification requirements.
Your privacy choices and rights
You can choose not to email us; the public articles remain available. If you have sent us personal information, contact letters@burnandbury.org to ask what we hold or to request a correction. We may ask for enough detail to locate the message and verify your identity. Access and correction rights depend on the law that applies. Under New Zealand-s Privacy Act 2020, people can request access to and correction of personal information an organisation holds about them; requests are handled under the Act and its exceptions. See the Office of the Privacy Commissioner-s summary of privacy rights and its guidance on retaining personal information . You may also contact the New Zealand Privacy Commissioner if you believe your concern has not been resolved.
Children
This publication is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly ask children to provide personal information. A parent or guardian who believes a child has sent personal information can contact us using the address above.
Editorial content and external sites
Articles are published for general information and discussion. They are not legal, medical, financial, investment, or betting advice, and reading them does not create a professional relationship. Check current rules and primary sources before acting. We aim to correct material errors, but do not promise that every page will always be complete or current. To the extent permitted by law, the site is provided without guarantees, and Burn & Bury is not responsible for losses arising from reliance on general editorial material or third-party websites. Nothing in this notice limits a right or liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
